Our little group is growing!!  141 members & on Saturday we had ten folks out running with us in Griffith Park  – awesome!

Don’t forget about the Glendale Downtown Dash 5K  on Sunday, March 11th.    Right now there are 8 of us running this one!   The price goes up from $30 – $40 on March 1st, so if you want to join us….hurry and register.

  • Don’t forget to set your ahead one hour the night before, Daylight Savings begins on Sunday, March 11th – RACE DAY.
  • Picking up your race packet.  Join us on the Saturday before the race at the Griffith Park Run …we can take it slow and easy – have breakfast (my favorite part of my Saturday morning).  Then we can walk across the street to pick up our event bibs and t-shirts  at A Runner’s Circle.
  • Parking.  You can park Orange Street garage (near the corner of Orange and California) and the Marketplace garage (at the corner of Maryland and Harvard).
  • Meeting up on Race Day.  We will try to gather as a group on the south east corner of Brand Blvd. and Wilson Avenu (in front of the dentist office there) @ 7:30.  The race starts on 8:20 am on Sunday and the in front of the Alex Theatre – just a half a block away.   I will be sure to get everyone’s cell phone number in case the chaos of the day forces us to move to a different location.

If you are still on the fence about this one….JUST DO IT!!   It is only 3 miles…easy.  Even though it is called a race….it is not about speed, it is about finishing!

Awesome day! February 12, 2012

Today was awesome!  Eileen and Lisa and I did the Firecracker 10K Run this morning.  I believe Natsuko was there also – we just didn’t spot her – she must have zoomed past us. J   The hills were painful, but we powered through and finished like champs.   Yay!!!

Next weekend is the Rock-n-Roll MarathonKim is running this one…and Claudio is running the Bandit Trail Run – good luck guys!

We had a nice run this morning @ Griffith Park.  There have been some new members join us this week…we love meeting new runners…thanks for coming!!

I’ve scheduled our next three weeks of run – so check them out and rsvp.  The routes are the same, but I’ve changed a few days and times.   Here’s our weekly schedule for the next 3 weeks:

Tomorrow is our social walk in downtown Glendale.  Join us for an easy walk and some coffee.

I am getting excited about running our first race.  Ok, so we are just moved from walking to running — but I am going to run this 5K event on November 5th!

I registered today!!  Now I am committed!

Tomorrow is the Catalina Verdugo Park Run September 12, 2011

Just wanted to send a quick reminder of our runs scheduled for this week and going forward.  We have three runs scheduled for this week.  We are all still very much at the walk/run stage.  We have been running a block and walking a block – that seems to be a good pace for everyone right now.  I imagine that this week and next week we will start running 2 block sand walking 1 block – adding more all the time.   No need to be concerned about your level of running, if you need to walk more or are ready to run more…everyone is welcome.  We need all levels; each person with their individual abilities is motivating and helpful to the rest of us.

We always wait 10-15 minutes for everyone to gather before we start out.   Also, if you need additional directions or have any questions, please feel free to email me or give me a call.

We have 4 runs scheduled for next week, and have included some runs in the evening.  You’ll see that these runs are scheduled for the next three weeks.  And if these routes and times works, we’ll continue with these for the following 6-weeks.

Getting in the spirit of things, I am trying to eat healthier…adding more fresh fruit to my day.  I whipped up this lime topping today for some raspberries and strawberries for my lunch.

You can see the recipe here. 

It was a nice alternative to my usual yogurt and fruit mix.  Hope you like it.

Tomorrow is our Chess Park walk.  This is a social walk, starting at Chess Park on Brand Bvld.  We’ll walk for about 2-miles and then take a stop @ the Starbucks at the Market Place for a coffee.  Join us if you can…it is a good excuse to get up early on a Saturday and kick-starting your weekend.

Marathon Training Schedule September 7, 2011

We have a run tomorrow morning @ Elk Park (we will walk and run), but I am going to start calling them runs…so I can get in the mood to run 🙂

I have been reviewing our Marathon Training schedule and getting things geared up our training to start in a couple of weeks…starting Monday, September 19th. 

Don’t worry if you don’t want to train for the marathon, keep coming to the runs, walks, trainings and events…the more the merrier!

I thought I should share the training schedule we are going to use to get ourselves into shape.   It is a 26-week schedule, and we’ll do our best to stay on track over the upcoming weeks and months.  Don’t worry if you miss a run or if you get of track.  We all will at one time or another – but together we can keep each other motivated to keep coming back and keep moving forward.

Even if you’re on the right track,
you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

I am getting exciting about RUNNING September 6, 2011

Good afternoon.  We’ll be running and walking at Elk Park on Thursday…and I am getting exciting about RUNNING.

To share my enthusiasm, here is some food for thought.

1)      Why do runners care about their Resting Heart Rate?  In search of a runner’s journal last week I noticed that several of the journals had a place to track your RHR, so I went on a mission to find out why runners care.    Here’s a couple of good articles on the subject:

Turns out it is a good people of information – especially for long-distance runners.  I have a heart rate monitor, so I’ll be breaking mine out this week to start learning more about what my heart rate means about my running and training.

I started a discussion on our message board for this, if you have any thoughts, questions or input on this topic, put them here.

2)      What about an online journal?  I’ve used a couple of different applications for tracking my runs and my routes, but MapMyRun allows me to have “friends”  — so we can share routes and training.  There is a Blackberry app that I can use while a run and then I can log runs and other activity online.  Pretty nice, check it out.  Let us  know if you use something else or what you think of MapMyRun.

200 Days until the LA Marathon August 31, 2011

Good afternoon everyone.  We had our first event this morning.  We were able to get in a 2+ miles walk and a brief stop @ Starbucks for a coffee – by 8 am.  Perfect for me! AND we got a coupon from Starbucks for $2 off a cold drink after 2 pm today….so I am heading out shortly to use it!

 

Today marks 200 Days until the LA Marathon!

That’s my goal!  Let me know if you think you would like to run the marathon with us this spring.  I’ve created a virtual event…RSVP if you would like to set this as a long-term goal for yourself.   You’re not committing to run…just letting me know if you want to join me in my goal.

Tomorrow is a Walk/Run @ Elk Mini Park.    I have mapped out and tested a 2.21 mile route for us to walk or run.  Depending on everyone’s comfort level we will walk part and run part of this route.

Don’t worry if you are not ready to run 2 miles – we will accommodate everyone.  And if you are already running 2+ miles, please feel free to join us and we’ll group folks according to your comfort level.   Personally I am not ready to run the full two miles, but I am ready to be encouraged and motivated by better runners…so please join us — your abilities will motivate others!  RSVP if you have not already.
